History

Nestled in the Sierra mountain foothill town of Grass Valley, California, Mt. St. Mary Academy is steeped in history.  Founded in 1859 by the Sisters of Mercy, Mt. St. Mary has the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating Catholic school west of the Mississippi. Our school continues to enjoy an enthusiastic, supportive parish community, and it prepares students to become outstanding Catholics who excel in faith, academics, and service. We offer classes in Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade.  Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Mt. St. Mary is proud of a fully credentialed staff of teachers, who are dedicated to their students and school community.  We enjoy a teacher:student ratio of 1:18.  A strong faith and academic foundation is emphasized, as children become engaged in the joy and responsibility of learning as a lifelong process. Using critical thinking and problem solving skills, students are encouraged to develop to their full potential.
